About Coley

Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, I spent my childhood in and around Orlando, Florida. After graduating from community college and night school, I landed subsistence grant and copy writing jobs in Washington, DC, then New York City. In 2000, I stumbled into Chicago, bought a warmer coat and never left.

To shift to more personal, more creative work, I earned an MFA in Creative Writing. The sublime, voluminous reading I did during my studies made story workshopping endurable.

I write about women’s soccer for the site Playing for 90. My stories and essays have appeared in Chicago Tribune Printer’s Row Journal, Green Mountains Review and The Evanston Roundtable. I am currently at work on an essay collection.

I live just north of Chicago. My home is only a short walk to Lake Michigan and, many a day, I pretend the lake is an ocean.
